History & Presentation

Located in the commune of Illats, the vineyard of 4 hectares extends over the ridge and the south/southwest slopes of the Archambeau hillside.

The single vineyard, a functional and charming asset of this property, is located on a unique hill in the GRAVES appellation. Indeed, its plateau at 55 meters of altitude, of confidential size, are constituted as well as these hillsides of a beautiful gravel, resulting from the pebbles rolled by the pastwaves of the Garonne, releasing the heat stored in the summer evenings.

At mid-slope, clayey efflorescences then limestone appear, gift of nature, bringing diversity to the soil, as well as ideal conditions for the realization of Great White Wines of Sauvignon, but also Cabernet Sauvignon of great structure and complexity necessary for the red blends.

This hill by its relief, is sheltered from spring frosts and thus creates microclimatic conditions suitable for a good sanitary condition of the vines and their fruits.

In addition, this relief allows a natural drainage of the soil to obtain concentrated grapes especially during the autumn rains, ensuring a constant quality of the harvest, an essential condition for the elaboration of Great Wines.

For decades, the wines from the Côteau d'Archambeau are known for their elegance and authenticity. They have seduced the most beautiful tables and prestigious brands have wanted to put their mark on them.

Today, Château PHENIX produces an average of 22,000 bottles, including 12.000 bottles of red Wine and 10.000 bottles of white Wine.

Through his knowledge of the cultural practices of the ancients, Samuel Dubourdieu in charge today of the Château PHENIX, has for a decade given new life to this vineyard. This soil, a true gift from nature, is worked exclusively by ploughing throughout the year, so no herbicides have been used for ten years.
